In my U.S. portfolio, I haven’t hit a +100% return on any position yet—though I probably did in the past. That said, I’ve made quite interesting gains on Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK.B) at +97.61% and Vanguard Russell 1000 Growth Index Fund (VONG) at +72.17%.

In these inflationary times, as groceries keep getting more expensive, it’s fitting that my top gainer is Loblaw Companies (L), up a robust +534.79%. In third place is George Weston Limited (WN), with an excellent +414.68% gain. George Weston is a major owner of Loblaw Companies (L) and Choice Properties REIT (CHP.UN)I don’t currently own any CHP.UN units, but they could be a good addition in a small proportion.

I’ve been using Stockopedia successfully for a few years now. The platform has helped me pick some great stocks. Stockopedia’s ranking system, StockRank, score stocks from 0 to 100, with 100 being the strongest note.

Among my top holdings, those with a StockRank above 90:
  • Emera Incorporated (EMA)
  • Suncor Energy Inc. (SU)
  • South Bow Corporation (SOBO)
  • Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CM)
  • Savaria Corporation (SIS)
  • Power Corporation of Canada (POW)
  • Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. (BEP.UN)

In the “80s club” on Stockopedia, I have:

  • TMX Group Limited (X)
  • Fortis Inc. (FTS)
  • Royal Bank of Canada (RY)
  • Toromont Industries Ltd. (TIH)
  • Hammond Manufacturing Company Ltd. Class A Subordinate Voting Shares (HMM.A)
  • Methanex Corporation (MX)
  • Brookfield Infrastructure Partners L.P. (BIP.UN)
  • WSP Global Inc. (WSP)
  • Loblaw Companies (L)
In the 70s:
  • George Weston Limited (WN)
  • Thomson Reuters Corporation (TRI)
  • Canadian National Railway Co. (CNR)

In the 60s:

  • Kraken Robotics Inc. (PNG)

In the 50s:

  • Brookfield Asset Management Inc. Class A Limited Voting Shares (BAM)

Whenever I browse Stockopedia, I feel like I’m on a treasure hunt. Over the years I’ve made several great discoveries there—one of them is Kraken Robotics Inc. (PNG). The company is headquartered in Newfoundland and Labrador. It doesn’t pay a dividend and it’s a venture-listed name, so it comes with higher risk. I’ll let you explore Kraken Robotics on your own, but it’s truly an interesting company. In fact, Kraken Robotics (PNG) has become intriguing enough to catch the attention of our American “friends.” But hey, as Canadians, that’s part of the game. Public markets are open, and anyone can buy Canadian stocks, including Americans.

Among my best-performing stocks, these are the ones I’m confident are my strongest assets and worth holding:

  • Emera Incorporated (EMA)
  • Suncor Energy Inc. (SU)
  • Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CM)
  • Power Corporation of Canada (POW)
  • Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. (BEP.UN)
  • TMX Group Limited (X)
  • Fortis Inc. (FTS)
  • Royal Bank of Canada (RY)
  • Toromont Industries Ltd. (TIH)
  • Hammond Manufacturing Company Ltd. Class A Subordinate Voting Shares (HMM.A)
  • Brookfield Infrastructure Partners L.P. (BIP.UN)
  • WSP Global Inc. (WSP)
  • Loblaw Companies (L)
Just like PNG, Hammond Manufacturing Company Ltd. Class A Subordinate Voting Shares (HMM.A) is a very great stock pick that I found using Stockopedia. In both case, their overall chart is quite strong. Take a look at Hammond Manufacturing cool stuff!

Pulling this together, my winners span defensives, infrastructure, and a few higher-beta names, proof that steady compounders and selective bets can coexist in the same portfolio. I’ll keep leaning on Stockopedia to surface ideas, add small trial positions when something intrigues me, and prune when the facts change. As always, this isn’t advice, just one small investor sharing the journey. If you have thoughts on CHP.UN or a favorite high-ranked pick I should review next, drop it in the comments.
