Welcoming my highest net worth ever: $533,963.68!

My investment portfolio closed this past Friday at its highest value ever, at $533,963.68. I was helped by my latest paycheque and by the TSX, which closed at a very impressive 32,612.93 points.

It’s quite striking to see how close we are now to the 33,000-point mark, despite the current political events involving the U.S. Sometimes, the tougher the conditions and the greater the chaos, the more it seems to stimulate the stock market in a positive way. Even though, from a human perspective, the situation feels quite negative and dark.

Over the past couple of days, I contributed to my TFSA portfolio. I invested the funds in a mix of high-dividend-paying ETFs between January 2 and 9. Below is the list, along with the returns I’ve recorded so far:

Harvest Amazon Enhanced High Income Shares ETF (AMHE): +5.89%
Harvest Agnico Eagle Enhanced High Income Shares ETF (AEME): +6.14%

There is definitely greater volatility to be aware of when investing in high-dividend-paying ETFs. Most of these products have been launched only recently or within the past few years, which means they have limited historical data to analyze. For that reason alone, high-dividend ETFs generally represent higher-risk investments.

Over the past couple of days, I truly took advantage of my broker’s commission-free trading, which allowed me to test several of these products without committing large sums.

I didn’t invest several thousand dollars in any single ETF. My goal was to boost my dividend income toward the $1,000 per month mark, and I finally reached it! My dividend income across my non-registered, U.S, and TFSA portfolios is now the equivalent of $1,007 per month.

While researching ETFs, I also made some great discoveries.

I particularly like the Harvest TD Bank Enhanced High Income Shares ETF (TDHE) and the Harvest Royal Bank Enhanced High Income Shares ETF (RYHE). TDHE currently offers a 12.12% yield, compared to TD Bank’s dividend yield of 3.29%. Meanwhile, RYHE provides a 9.03% yield, while Royal Bank itself pays a 3.29% dividend yield.

Both TDHE and RYHE are currently rated Medium risk, and I wouldn’t mind allocating $1,000 to each over time.

I still have some cash available in my TFSA portfolio, so I may invest again soon.
