I hope you're enjoying the long weekend! It’s been a rainy one here in Montreal.
When I noticed this past Friday that the TSX was closing at 25,971.93 points, I knew it was time to update my investment portfolio — and I'm glad I did. I had a strong feeling that I was about to hit a record high, and I wasn’t disappointed. As of Friday, my net worth reached $475,419.57. Despite 2025 being quite a volatile year so far, my investment portfolios have continued to perform well, if you consider the big picture.
It all began on January 23 of this year, when I reached a net worth of $469,813.56. After that, between February and April, my net worth dipped, reaching a low of $456,866.22 on April 24. Things started to turn around on May 7, when I celebrated a $470k mark — just in time to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The very next day, May 8, my net worth climbed close to $474k, and finally hit $475,419.57 on May 17.
During that same period, I also experienced a rise in my dividend income. Several of the stocks in my portfolios recently announced dividend increases, including:
-
CT REIT (CRT.UN): +2.4%
-
Caribbean Utilities (CUP.U): +2.7%
-
Finning International (FTT): +10%
-
Pembina Pipeline (PPL): +2.8%
-
Topaz Energy (TPZ): +3%
-
George Weston (WN): +9%
-
Telus Corp. (T): +3.3%
Among these, Pembina Pipeline (PPL) stands out as one of my major holdings in my non-registered portfolio. It’s a Derek Foster stock and one of the first I ever invested in. PPL has been with me since the early days, and its value has grown steadily over time. I also have a DRIP (Dividend Reinvestment Plan) set up for PPL, so a large portion of my dividends from it are automatically reinvested to buy more shares.
On May 8, PPL’s share price came very close to $55, closing at $54.84. That was a key driver in pushing my net worth higher. It was an exciting moment! But just one day later, the stock suddenly dropped to around $51 per share. I won’t disclose how many shares I hold for security reasons, but let's just say my net worth dropped by a few thousand dollars in one day — all because of one stock that’s especially close to my heart: my belove and wonderful Pembina Pipeline (PPL)! Thankfully, this past Friday, PPL had recovered to $52.56 per share, slowly but certainly trending upward again. If I must be sincere, I must admit that it appears to me that PPL reached the $55 per share just like that, for no reason.
I'm very pleased with my current $475k net worth. Realistically, though, my portfolio had the potential to push me close to $480,000. It’s always a bit disappointing when your actual net worth doesn’t quite reflect what you feel your portfolio is truly worth, but in the end, everything is in the hands of the stock market — and lately, it hasn't been treating me too badly.
