Welcoming a $486,088.88 net worth!

decided to update my investment portfolio since this past Friday was payday. I was expecting my net worth to be somewhere around $485K. I got a very pleasant surprise when I calculated everything and found out that I had actually exceeded my expectations, happily closing Friday’s session at $486,088.88At this point, things are getting very exciting. I now need less than $15,000 to reach my first $500,000! Youhou!

I haven’t been following financial news much lately, or any news, but I did hear about the catastrophic flooding in Texas. I just can’t understand how something like that could happen. I was heartbroken to learn that many children lost their lives during what should have been a fun adventure at summer camp. It’s so unreal and difficult to grasp.

Montreal experienced a flood of its own today. Luckily, I managed to go swimming before the thunderstorm hit. I was actually shopping when the rain began. The sky turned pitch black, as if it were nighttime. Fortunately, the flooding didn’t last long. My shopping trip only took around 20 minutes.

I’ll be enjoying a few vacation days in New Brunswick very soon. Until then, I’m making the most of summer in Montreal. I visited Old Montreal on Saturday evening. The weather was very hot, but a refreshing breeze was coming in from the Saint Lawrence River.

Also this weekend, a fire broke out not far from where I live in Montreal. It’s been reported that some of the people affected didn’t have insurance. Renter’s insurance is extremely important, especially in a neighborhood like the Plateau, where buildings and apartments are packed closely together.

I know it’s yet another expense to deal with on top of everything else, but it’s absolutely necessary. If the federal government were willing to make the right changes and implement proper regulations, they could make renter’s and home insurance mandatory for all Canadians. The insurance industry would certainly benefit, but more importantly, it would ensure that people impacted by disasters are properly compensated. In my view, it would be a win-win situation.
