I checked on my investment portfolio for no reason this evening, but I don’t regret doing so. The TSX closed today’s session at 33,584.34, down 233.85 points (-0.69%), so I obviously had no reason to check on my stocks, but I did anyway, only to find out that my stock portfolios had gained over $3,000!
Even though my rent money for the month of May is already gone because I like to pay my rent a few days before the due date, I was able to hit the $580K mark. I closed the day with a $580,732.59 net worth, which means I am only missing $19,267.41 — less than $20K — before reaching my first... $600,000.
I am heavily exposed to the oil sector, especially in my non-registered portfolio. My two major holdings are Pembina Pipeline Corporation (PPL) and Enbridge Inc. (ENB). Guess what? Pembina Pipeline Corporation (PPL) closed today’s session at $60.62, up 1.53 (+2.59%), and Enbridge Inc. (ENB) closed at $72.61 per share, up 1.04 (+1.45%). I benefited greatly from those gains, to the point where I am now exceeding $580K! This is wild because I wasn't expecting it anytime soon, especially not today.
